CHANGES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT by Gerry Haggett - 10:35 on 08 June 2008CHANGES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The June issue of Breckland Voice (that comes with the dustcart) explains that the only option open to District Councils is for three new Unitary Authorities for Norfolk to replace the existing District and County.
What Voice cannot say is that this option is being forced upon local authorities by National Government as a consequence of encouragement of city and urban organisations wanting more control over their local matters.
But we all would like local control and especially one that does not add extra financial burden to the Council Tax payer.
The sums likely to be incurred by the change alone, quite apart from any loss of authority - are expected to run into £ millions that must be met by the taxpayer.
As Breckland Council has worked hard to keep our charges to the lowest in Britain then it makes good sense to retain the present system.
Therefore a "NO CHANGE" vote on your option form printed on page 5 of Breckland Voice is the surest way to both save money and to keep your say on local matters.
Be sure to send in your NO CHANGE to
