This is a scheme run by volunteers. It helps any member of the community who is without transport get to their doctor, dentist, and hospital appointments. It is not to be confused with the hospital car scheme. Neither can it be used to go shopping or for other trips unless under special circumstances.
A volunteer co-ordinator from the village helps organise volunteer drivers match up with the requested transport needs of the parishioners.
The volunteer driver receives a small mileage allowance to cover the petrol costs. The parishioner, Breckland Council and the Parish Council, share the costs. The volunteer driver does not have to pay extra car insurance, as this is a voluntary scheme and not a taxi service.
The Community Car Scheme is already running successfully in
Great Hockham and Watton, providing much needed help with transport in times of need.
I should like to find out if there is any interest in introducing this scheme in Caston. Therefore if anybody who is interested in -
1. Being a volunteer driver
2. A volunteer organiser to oversee the scheme
3. Or anyone who has a need for this type of service
