CASTON COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH

The Scheme is continuing well, with regularly two sessions per week, and last week there were three.

Since 3 November we have had nine teams working for one hour or more for each session, some consisting of three people, and some of four. During these sessions we have recorded
one ‘Nil Return’ with no speeding vehicles, and 17 vehicles being driven with excessive speed – 10 less than in the last Update, but there were three driving well over 40 mph in our 30 limit zone!

Most of the volunteers agree there has been a reduction of speed from Village residents since the beginning of the Scheme, particularly when a session is underway and the two Community Speedwatch signs are displayed. Two more of these folding signs, costing £160 in total, would allow coverage of the four main access points to the Village. We hope the Parish Council might pay for these?!   Permanent signs are said to be at the ‘drawing-board’ stage.

More volunteers still needed please – only one hour per week on average.

A new volunteer Co-ordinator is needed from 1 January 2009.
