Congratulations are in Order!
Congratulations are firmly in order for Evelyn Batts, our parish clerk. Evelyn is one of only 400 council clerks in the country to have taken and successfully passed The Certificate in Local Council Administration. Altogether there were 24 elements to this certificate and all had to be passed. Clerks are being encouraged to become qualified in order that they can be sure they are carrying out the business of the parish council in a lawful manner. By having a qualified clerk, the parish council having acheived certain other bench marks, will in due course be able to apply for quality status, again showing that they are carrying out their responsibilities in a lawful way. All of this is to bring parish councils in line with the other tiers in local government, and prepare them for the changes that will be coming, thereby ensuring their future and giving them closer links with the local communities they serve.
