A Word from the Landlord

Having been hosts of the village pub for 9 months now, we'd like to thank all our local customers, old and young, for the support you've given us. But as the only surviving pub in the village we could do with a lot more support to enable us to continue to provide what is now the only community service, (except for the church and village hall), in the village. This is your village pub and as the saying goes, 'use it or lose it'.
We're endeavouring to provide the leisure activities our customers seem to want and have already got a devoted crib team who play in the league on Monday nights, quiz night on Tuesdays which has proved popular with the regular 'boffs', and we have recently begun having a Music Jam Session on Wednesday nights which has brought in various musicians from as far away as Kings Lynn and some weeks they are filling the dining room with their instruments and equipment! The music varies week by week but ranges from old time singalongs to modern pop and includes a bit of blues, folk, country, etc and any musicians or singers, (and customers), are welcome to come along and join in. This is also an event we hold one Sunday afternoon each month from 2 - 8pm, usually to be the first Sunday of the month. However since we had a Christening party on the first Sunday of this month, the Sunday jam will instead be on Mothers Day - 18th March. Ideas for any other nights, Thursday to Sunday are most welcome.
Foodwise we offer a full menu and bar snack service, (takeaway as well), lunchtimes Thursday - Sunday from 12 -3pm and evenings, Friday - Sunday 6 - 9pm. For those of you with different tastes we are having a Curry Night on 31st March, £10.00 for 2 courses, booking and deposit of £3.00 per person in advance, and we have, as of this week, added a Chinese selection of dishes to our menu to either eat in-house or takeaway. They include Sweet and Sour Pork, Chicken or King Prawn in batter, Spring Roll, BBQ Spare Ribs, Fried Rices, and Chow Meins. Sorry, we don't do deliveries! But any takeaways - Fish and Chips, Burgers, Pizza or Chinese can be ordered on 01953 488236.
Coming this month we also have a St Patrick's Night Party on Saturday 17th March with Guinness @ £2.00 a pint or Marston's Smooth @ £1.20 a pint all night, (FREE Irish Stew while it lasts), and Sunday Roast Dinner of Rib of Beef between 12 and 2pm on Mother's Day, 18th March, (followed by this month's Music Jam). Booking is a must so we know how many to cater for.
As I'm sure you know the smoking in public places ban comes in on July 1st this year and we realise that this may bring in many more customers who have previously not frequented the pub. To accommodate this, our landlords, Admiral Taverns have come up with plans to give the Red Lion a 'makeover' which it is badly in need of. Current plans include an extension to the pub which will include a separate restaurant which we will also be able to use as a function room for bookings. The existing dining room will then be an extended bar area and the 'snug' will be a sports bar with pool table etc. This is all very exciting for both us and our current customers. However, our landlords are only prepared to spend the vast amount of money needed for this refurbishment if they can be sure the custom will be enough to warrant it. We need your support and custom in the pub in order to show the landlords it will be worth it. The village pub is part of this country's history and heritage and cannot survive without it's patrons. There may come a day in the future when you and your family fancy strolling along to the pub - what if it's closed down?????
