The Caston Village Hall became Caston Opera House for the evening on 8th March when Christine Brown and friends performed a musical compilation entitled "Music of the Night" featuring songs from four of the popular musical shows - "Show Boat", "Oklahoma", "My Fair Lady" and "Phantom of the Opera". The hall was packed to capacity as Christine and baritone Ken Davis, supported by narrator Jane Brodie and pianist Catherine Hyde, performed many of the famous songs from these shows. The show was devised and the event organised by Christine Brown ably assisted by many Caston folk who supervised the detailed arrangement including programme sales, serving drinks, running the raffle and helping in setting up for the occasion.
A buffet supper was enjoyed at the interval thanks to many contributions of a variety of dishes from from Caston residents. Thanks must also go to Peter Brown for his generous donations of flowers and drinks.
Altogether it was a very enjoyable and nostalgic evening that raised £723.78 which was divided equally between the Church of the Holy Cross at Caston and the Caston Village Hall. Both these organisations are very grateful to Christine and her friends for these excellent contributions and for a good evening's entertainment.
