Village Hall Refurbishment Update

Many readers may be wondering what progress is being made with the refurbishment of the Caston Village Hall.

As you will know the building alteration plans received planning permission.  Since then we have employed a new architectural specialist who has drawn up the specification and constructional drawings ready for submission of quotations.  However, as part of the detail drawing work it became necessary to make the exterior walls thicker to contain the new high thermal value insulation.  This necessitated a marginal increase to the footprint of the building and a marginal extension of the roofline which required a further approval from the planners.  It is hoped that final approvals and an approved building specification will be available early in 2015 enabling the hall's management committee to seek tenders for the works.  Once these have been received it is then intended to source further grant funding.

In tandem with this the committee are exploring the possibility of the hall receiving charitable status.  Discussions are underway currently and we will update readers on this matter at a later date.  In the meantime the new trustees have been signed up. They are John Chapman, Francis Ulrich, Bridget Hall and Steven Hendrie.

During December 2014 the hall's committee applied for several licences for the hall to enable the performance of music, plays, films and dance.  Application was also made for a license to permit the occasional sale of alcoholic beverages.  By the time you read this article the outcome will be known.  There is no intention for the hall to operate a regular bar but it will enable functions to be held for parishioners and ticket paying public to attend shows, etc and to enjoy the occasional drink.

Please be assured that the halls management committee continue to strive to provide a facility that can serve the needs of our community and to improve the facilities available.  If any readers wish to make suggestions or have ideas for improving the hall and its facilities we are always glad to hear from you.  Just email chairman@castonvillagehall.co.uk or drop a note in the hall's mailbox.  Parishioners are also welcome at the management committee's annual general meeting which is usually held on the last Monday evening of May each year.
